ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Jody Edwards

The Artisan Group is proud to announce today’s Artist Spotlight Feature is Jody Edwards of Jody Edwards Art!

We caught up with Jody and asked her a few questions about her incredible watercolor feather studies, and her experiences so far working with TAG. Here’s what she said:

Tell us a little bit about your shoppe. 

What could be more motivating than opening an online store with the promise of doing one painting per night? I opened my Etsy shoppe and began painting “nightly studies” after my second son was born. Small paintings of little treasures. An antique key, a tarnished spoon, a feather. The feather sold, so I painted another… and another. Feathers became my “thing”. It wasn’t long before I was selling to international collectors. I was contacted by the Art Department Coordinator of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, who purchased three of my pieces for the show. Around that time I was invited to join The Artisan Group and, since then, the opportunities have grown beyond anything I could have dreamed! Now, three years later, my art is geared towards nature lovers, and I donate 50% of the sales of my Raptor Feather prints to The Mountsberg Raptor Centre.


What is your favorite product from your shoppe and why? 
Och! That’s like asking an artist what their favorite color is! At the moment, I’m really loving the Raptor Feather Collection. 12 Archival feather prints, made from 12 of the 60 feathers I painted and gifted to some eco-conscious celebs this year with The Artisan Group for Earth Day. The feathers make such an impact framed in groups and this is an affordable way to get that designer look for a feature wall in your home. Also, I donate 50% of the sale to help the birds at The Mountsberg Raptor Centre. It’s a win-win for everyone!
When you’re not painting such life-like watercolors, what are your hobbies? 

My camera is never far from my side, even when I’m chasing my two little guys. Always looking for the perfect nature shot, references for my next painting or a way to document my family’s adventures, I am a wannabe photographer! Also, birding seems to have come with the territory of being “That Feather Artist”. I am always trying to identify birds, their song, and flight patterns.


What do you like best about The Artisan Group? 

Joining The Artisan Group has been invaluable for my business. I have learned so much from the other members. Being able to ask any question in the group and getting instant responses from other women like myself, all over the world is so gratifying. The Artisan Group has given me the confidence to promote my own work, which I have struggled with in the past. The most important thing about the group though? The friends I have made. It sounds cheesy, but it’s true. The relationships I have made with other artisans are so important to me, and I have to thank Valerie Guerrero for that!

    I gave my Mom and my big sister, both really enthusiastic birders, prints and cards from Jody’s shop at Christmas. Best Gifts Ever! And I almost kept some for myself, they are so amazing and beautiful. Having tried painting before, and not succeeding, I really appreciate and admire Jody’s abilities. You know how much I love your work, Jody! I’m thrilled to now know you also donate to the raptor cause; awesome!
